What is Conscious Business?
Fred Kofman, author of the books “Conscious Business - How to build Value through Values” and “The Meaning Revolution - The Power of Transcendent Leadership”, states that conscious business enterprises are those that choose to follow a business strategy in which they seek to benefit both human beings and the environment.
Some may question what benefit would be gained by a conscious approach to business? Evidence shows that business enterprises where employees feel a greater sense of purpose and psychological safety actually achieve greater results.
So what does this mean to coaching from a practical point of view? This might mean that a coaching conversation may include a focus that not only benefits business results, but also is respectful to individuals. Examples of questions that may come up might include: are you as a leader creating an inspiring vision that others want to follow; are your teams valuing the unique contributions that each member can make; what is your approach to giving feedback; how empowered do employees feel; etc.
